City Fashion Trends – How to Style It

At last the Spring has arrived and not only the weather has got brighter but the the trends around the key cities are beginning to bloom. So at L&G we took a look at the key trends across the continents and at the best way to accessorize the style.

Couture Pattern and Prints - Patterns, Prints and couture are big this season. These styles have been intricately and cleverly incorporated into the spring and summer styles to bring a more textural element to designs and a feminine look. Long necklaces and gemstone statement rings are a perfect way to accessorize.

Collections: Garden of Stones, Stone Age and Candy Rocktail and are a funky pieces of jewellery which will add another dimension to your outfit www.loloandgalago.com

Hot in Paris - On the Paris runways it is all about statement zips, leather gloves, print hats and fringes. These styles work with the Large Statement Rings and Necklaces on our Rising Star, Exotic and Serpentine Collections.

Fringes - The Fringe look will be huge this season and the forthcoming seasons, the style adds an extra dimension and should be dressed with a simple and more elegant design.

Collection: The 1950-Sixty, Shard and Tiger Claw collection work well with the fringe trend www.logoandgalago.com

Bloc Colour - This season there has been an overwhelming use of luxury fabrics, modern dimensional techniques and bloc colour. These styles command dimensional pieces and work well with accessories from the Number 8 and Imperial Collection.

Embroidery and Embellishment - is one of the key developments that has taken all the runways by storm. Beads, sequins and sparkles have all be sewn into designs to add a more detailed level of design to pieces. These designs work well with the L&G Spice Trail and Exotic Glam collections.

New York Style – Geometric, layering and abstract large shapes were a key look in New York with Victoria Beckham leading the way. This look works well with more textural designs. The L&G 1950 Sixty, Mini Ruffles, Fine Collections will add another element to the look.

New York – London – Milan – Paris - Fashion Trends 2014/2015

The Spring 2014 International fashion weeks, showcasing some of the most talented designers, are coming to an end and already it is clear that there are a few ‘ must haves’ that you need to be focusing on for your wardrobe. We loved the runways this season and some of our favourite top 5 key trends include:

Geometric Shapes and Colour Block –In New York, London and  Milan, geometric colour and forms were seen hitting the runways. Bottega Veneta showed cased jagged patches in yellow and red, while Marni mixed pastels and neon which continues to be big with cobalt blue and black.
Dolce & Gabbana (www.dolcegabbana.com ) – Marni (www.marni.com)
Pointed Shoes  - Karl Lagerfeld kick started the flat shoe trend in January when he selected to put all his 64 models for the Chanel collection in trainers. This trend followed on in Milan, where designers opted to showcase their dresses with pointed toe flat shoes. Marni revealed brightly coloured loafers with triangular silver and golden clown type noses, No.21 showed glittery pointed shoes inspired by the 60’s and Bottega Veneta showcased the classic men's shoe, with a pointed-toe.
Jenni Kayne – Spring Summer 2014- Pointy flats will make an impact (www.jennikayne.com)
Ocean and Sea -  This season, Milan designers took their inspiration from the sea  with Kenzo debuting their how casing their ‘ no fish’ and ocean colour collection.

Kenzo: Back to Blue – Inspired by the ocean and open water for Spring 2014 www.kenzo.com
4. The Cape is Back - Oversized garments as seen in Victoria Beckham’s collection during  New York Fashion week and in the runway collections in Milan is a must have this season. The item that stole the show in Milan was the cape. Dolce & Gabbanna lavishly decorated the cape with embroidery and precious stones in the form of branches, birds and foxes but less extravagant versions were also presented by Giorgio Armani and  Salvatore Ferragamo, the cape is in!
Dolce & Cabana Fashion Week 2014 – www.dolceandcabana.com
5 Layers and Sleeveless  - This winters season trend is sleeveless. Long vests, trench coats and jackets without sleeves hit the runways.  These designs were showcase by Iceberg, MaxMara and MSMG . Layers is the magic trend to keep warm this winter and still look stylish. In many cases, designers showed sleeveless jackets which could be worn as a dress. So bear these trends in mind when putting together your wardrobe this season.

New York Fashion Week 2014 – Fall/Winter 2014/15

New York fashion week kicks off the Spring Fashion Trends 2015, and more will be unveiled over the next few weeks runways worldwide.  However to give you a preview, the key trends you need to watch out for include:

Fashion Trends 2015

Mid Rift - Get stomach crunching - Crop Tops are in…Hopefully if you read our superfoods article you were paying attention as health and crop tops are at the top of the agenda. The mid rift style tops took over the runways at New York Fashion Week – clashing and matching, every style was in.

Crop Tops in the runway collections of Lela Rose, Tracy Reese, Phillip Lim and Zimmerman

Minimalistic Lounge and Boyish Tailoring - Victoria Beckham, Theory, Thomas Concord and Peter Michael Dills designed their collection in part with boyish tailoring, lounge suits and layers – it was a minimalistic in style and a more relaxed look. The pieces were different styles of lounge with key attention to detail on the layering and styling.

Metallic  - Metallic is one of the key trends and was seen all over the catwalk from Ralph Ricci Jason Wu – the colour gold was a key theme but whatever the colour metallic will be a strong trend to incorporate into your wardrobe.

Ralph Rucci ( chadoralphrucci.com), Altuzurra, Diane von Furstenberg( dvf.com), Jason Wu (jasonwustudio.com)L

90’s are back!  - Who would of thought it..the 90’s overall design and adaptions were seen on the runways – again combined with the layering look and ‘ sportswear’ trends.
Rag ‘n’ Bone, DKNY, Alexander Wnt, Y-3 all included variations influenced by the 90’s era and given this ear a modern re-styling.

‘ Middle Parted Hair,  Braids and Tangerine Lipstick’  made an impact  – whether designers or highstreet this summer you will see the braided and middle parting ‘ slick’ look with strong matt lipsticks especially tangerine – this trends won’t wait till next year – I can guarantee this summer these styles will be everywhere.

White is the New Black - A personal favourite – white collections were seen across all the runways, where it be sport or couture. White is a major theme – long dresses, jackets, tailored trousers – white is one of the colours along with gold and metallic should be in your wardrobe.

Translucent and Lace - Sheer and translucent layers formed an integral part of collections – light and floaty, they were styled across the catwalks – they were combined with prints, patterns, and sequins. They were accessorised with statement jokers  and large bangles or cuffs. The style was very feminine, elegant and floaty.

Runway: Delpozo ( www.delpozo.com), Zimmermann (zimmermannwear.com), Jason Wu and Zac Posen ( zacposen.com)

Monochrome Rocks - New York Fashion Week confirmed that black and white continues to be top the trends, it was seen in all different shapes and forms. Patterns, prints, stripes – all the big designers included it in their collections. Layered, tailored, lounge – whatever style – monochrome ruled.

Behind the Scenes: L&G 2014 Spring and Summer Shoots

Lolo and Galago is just a few weeks away from launching our designer jewellery- and our incredible photos- so we just had to share the fun and excitement we had behind the camera at our latest shoot in London.

Shooting for our launch campaigns, we found ourselves at Studio 9: a gorgeous, contemporary London location that used to be a school. But far from carrying out any maths lessons, Lolo & Galago converted the studio... into our very own Jungle Boutique!

Model Anastasia enjoys exploring our very own designer jungle

500kg of exotic plants later and after working hard to create our own little piece of paradise thanks to Palmbrokers, our excited models donned some gorgeous dresses from the likes of Forever Unique to bring a contemporary and fashionable look to our exotic jungle.

Model Roisin looks stunning in the Photoshoot’s carefully selected garments

We wanted to combine the international and exotic flavour of Lolo and Galago with a contemporary, designer feel- a task our creative director, Martin Lear, was assigned. Over 3,000 photos were taken over two days, using contemporary interior design combined with our designer jewellery to make sure we got exactly the looks we wanted.

Our wardrobes were bursting with incredible dresses, tops and shoes all provided by our fantastic stylist Pash from Style Creative, whilst makeup artist Maya made sure our models looked gorgeous with the fantastic looks she created- 2 suitcases worth of cosmetics were needed!

Good fun was had by all as everyone came together to work hard and deliver a fantastic contemporary, designer look to our London based studio.
Our launch photos will be released soon, when you can see Lolo & Galago’s designer jewellery in its full glory.

New York Fashion Week – It’s a Winter Olympic Gold!

I write this whilst sitting in Balthazar with Danny DeVito on one side with his wife Rhea Perlman ( remember Rita from Cheers)  and Cara Delevinge a couple of tables down. Yes, it is New York Fashion week and a great time to be in the Big Apple.

This season it is all about gold and the model of the moment, Cara was recently spotted in Notting Hill sporting a Gold Grill before heading over to NY for the New York Fashion Week.

I have recently viewed some of the latest catwalk collections and it is very clear from the start that whatever the style – Gold is in…Diane Von Furstenberg, was one of the first to hit on the Winter Olympic Sport style gold medals and metals with her iconic wrap dress leading the way. The Fall Collection 2014 naturally included plenty of wraps, including ballerina sweaters from which the idea was actually born, and playful prints from half-moons to ocean waves to gold stars. Black-and-white continues also to rules this season and fur in all styles hit the runways.

DVF - www.dvf.com

Tracy Reese’s collection also focused around the theme of gold in dresses, jewellery and accessories including sparkles and ostrich feathers. The room was decked out with sparkles, metallic foil ( another hot item to have in your wardrobe) and oversized embroidered sweaters as well as rose sequined dresses. To sum it up, the show was about sequins, sparkles and the season for parties.

Marissa Webb's Spring 2014 show was a favourite and she too hit on the theme of gold with high waist skirts to shrink the waistline and boyish shirts. Knotted obi belts gave tops a peplum look while fitted jackets and tailored tops kept voluminous blouses in check. Menswear made an appearance too where we saw the trend on monochromatic button-downs and skinny ties being worn – for men it is all about the slim fit.

Lolo and Galago at the Jewellery Show Birmingham

It’s Jewellery time at the Spring Fair! Once again the annual Jewellery show, held at the incredibly vast NEC in Birmingham, showcases the latest trends in contemporary jewellery along with some fascinating exhibits and displays.

Lolo and Galago attended and were thrilled to meet so many talented up and coming designers, with a beautiful range of silver and gold contemporary jewellery designs. We were treated to a live exhibition by Trollbeads featuring their beads being made, as well as to a breathtaking catwalk of models wearing gorgeous outfits and jewellery.

We were impressed by Kokkino’s enticing Shimmer collection, utilising gold and silver plating to create gorgeous gradient colour, and by Farah Qureshi’s latest designs.

Rachel Galley Unity Trilogy Pendant

Rachel Galley’s launch of her LUXE collection took our breath away- utilising a stunning combination of diamonds with chic architectural lines, she has cleverly crafted three pieces into her statement Unity Trilogy Ring.

Farah Qereshi's latest collection

Another year draws to a close but as always, we’re excited by what we see. We will continue to draw inspiration from designers and trends around the World and look forward to discovering even more talent next year.
