How we select our trends that inspire our jewellery collections

Inspiration is all around us and we get inspiration from all walks of life. Each collection follows a different theme but some of our favourites this season are the Exotic Glam and Jungle Trends. The Exotic Glam collection was inspired by South American foliage with its bright Amazonian colours and vibrant textures and shapes. It is also one of the key trends this year.

Jungle fever is also hot on our list and the ‘ Garden of Stones’ is one of our most stunning and beautiful collections.

Later this year florals, lilac and purple will be a colour which will be hot on the fashion scene. Animal Prints and patterns are one of the key trends for the summer season and have been seen on the runways of all the top designers and on the high street. The Garden of Stones collection compliments this style with its bright colours which can be worn alone or stacked with other rings.

One of the key colours which should be in everyone’s wardrobe this season and inspired by the blankets of purple found in the deepest darkest forests is the colour lilac/purple.

We have incorporated this colour in our jewellery collections with the deep purple amethyst stones.

Next year’s trends focus more of digital and futuristic shapes where technology is used to enhance nature; improving and healing and we will focus on sci-fi colours and high tech imagery - scientific innovation, the challenge to break boundaries.

Tropicana – Next year’s designs will take inspiration from the Tropics with bursts of bright colours and prints. Highlighted patterns which centre around palm trees, pineapples, paradise and tropical motifs will be the rage. In terms of textures materials such as silk satin to printed chiffon will be used to add another dimension and more elaborate expressions featuring beading or 3D imagery will be seen on the runways.

A City that Inspires Art & Design – Kyoto, Japan

Jewellery is inspired by many factors and one of the main creative influences which inspired The Spice Trail and Exotic Collections was Cities steeped in history and buildings. So at L&G we have taken a look at one of the more interesting and exciting cities that inspires design.

Kyoto, Japan – This city is known as the heart and soul of Japan’s traditional Culture and Arts. It’s centuries old temples and geisha districts have become the emblematic ideal of Japan. It boasts more than 1,600 temples, 400 Shinto shrines and 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites. The energy and tradition is seen everywhere including local streets.

From traditional design such as the Imperial Palace and Golden Pavilion ( below) to the modern, sleek and futuristic, Kyoto has it all.

One of the most inspiring buildings, is the Miho Museum. During construction, the architect, Pei nick named the isolated structure Shangri-La. It is set amidst a green forested natural park separated from the rest of the world by a futuristic, cylindrical entrance tunnel. It combines the forest and buildings and creates a natural fusion of eco and modern design. The museum holds private collections of priceless antiques and ancient relics, and special visiting exhibitions.

Kyoto is also famous for its kaiseki, an elaborate 15 course meal focused on local, seasonal specialties which originated more than 500 years ago to accompany formal tea ceremonies.

Colour is also key when designing and Japan has a history of beautiful fabrics and textiles. The historic textile centre of design can be found in the The Nishijin Textile Center located in north western Kyoto. This is a place to see the daily kimono fashion show or experience being dressed up in 12-layer kimono, the choice of  Japan’s imperial princesses to wear on their wedding day centuries ago. It is a place that enthuses ideas and creativity.

After visiting the busy streets of Kyoto, one can balance ying and yang and be  inspired by nature at the Arashiyama Forest, a towering bamboo forest that visitors can experience on rickshaw rides. Its wide, meandering paths are framed by thick green shoots create a peaceful atmosphere,  they have inspired local poets and artisans for centuries.

For a look at modern design ideas in Kyoto – the best place is to visit some of their finest, hotels, offices and restaurants which has been designed by local and famous architects. An example of this is the Hyatt Hotel, located in the heart of the action.

The design in chic, minimalistic and modern. However where you are..rest assured you will be inspired by all that is around you.
